Black and blue clouds
Pour their frozen tears
Upon the barren ground

Trees sway skeleton arms
Reaching just short
Fingertips brittle in the frost

The wind moans
Its mournful song
Through those dark places
Where mortals do not go

The river's cold lips
Kiss the sides of the boat.
Carressing them
With ever-flowing hair

Dark eyes and midnight hair
Bone white flesh
Beneath a tattered cloak

Standing upright
Lantern in one hand
Paddle in the other
I set out on the desolate path

Lost souls before me
As the frozen tears fall,
The brittle bones reach
And the mournful song
Carries my boat

To the dark place
Where mortals do not go

I like the imagery and overall feel of the poem..
And not to be bothersome, but..
A farrier is a horse-hoof specialist...
Would you be meaning a Ferryman?

Living in the sky with diamonds...
:iconshadowofthesun89:
lol...yeah...that's what i meant...i just couldn't think of the word. farrier was the only thing coming to mind. it's amazing how when you're trying to think of the simplest word...you just can't find it. thanks.

give a man a mask. then and only then will he tell you who he truly is.

It's very detailed and eloquent. It sounds beautiful! :D

The boy I love left me stranded on this desert island of life called Conclusions.
:icondarkh3art87:

somehow i had thought the word was ferrier...

but turns out
ferrier is a french last name instead

Bravo! Bravo!

I love the overall feel of the piece. Then again, I love mythology-inspired pieces anyway,

"Writing is a socially acceptable form of schizophrenia." --E.L. Doctorow.

It's a great subject to play around with. Some of the most beautiful poetry is mythology-based.

You have the imagery exactly in keeping with your consonants. The k's are cold, the t's give no relief. Ever-winter and wickedly biting.

I think you might want "Charon" here. Yeah, farrier is someone who shoes horses.

Nice sketch, very Byronic. Ells

My comments made with best intentions. Then again, the road to Hell is paved with them. Please visit my site and return the favor. Regards, Ells
